A Bit of TLC is a ‘virtual club’ bringing together groups of like-minded people for a wide programme of social and cultural activities that are curated and hosted. 

There is a close partnership between The Rag and TLC and members of the Rag may now enjoy some of the activities of TLC without paying the usual subscription (which is otherwise £120 per annum), especially the events that TLC is organising at the Rag.

What we do

We organise outings and events for our members – trips to the West End theatre, opera, concerts and talks as well as private visits to country houses and gardens and overnight excursions further afield. We normally offer, on average, about two events every week – although Covid played havoc with that!

We curate the programme, make recommendations and host every outing – aiming to do all of that with imagination, efficiency, value and… a bit of TLC.

We also arrange transport at cost (for example we have set a price of £15.50 per person return for journeys from SW6, SW11 and W14). 

How we operate

We select dates well in advance and reserve a large number of tickets – we advertise the programme to members and they choose the events they wish to attend, tell us and pay. We then buy the tickets on our members’ behalf and pass them on at the price we pay. Each member owns their own tickets. If a member cannot attend, they can either pass their tickets onto a friend or we will try to find a buyer or return tickets to the box office, although there are no guarantees that the member will not be out of pocket.

  • Monday 9 Sep 2024 – Broadcaster and author, Mishal Husain, about her family’s journey to Britain. 
    
  • Monday 23 Sep – Author, Sonia Purnell, about Pamela Churchill Harriman. 
    
  • Monday 7 Oct – Orlando Whitfield about the world’s biggest art fraud and his involvement in it.
    
  • Monday 21 Oct – Prof Ali Ansari, a leading authority on the topic, talks about Iran.  
    
  • Monday 11 Nov – Renowned war artist, Arabella Dorman, talks about working ‘in theatres of war’.
    
  • Monday 25 Nov – Chris Stokel-Walker, best-selling author, talks about Artificial Intelligence.
