Privacy Policy

As a company, A Bit of TLC Limited (‘TLC’) is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of all of its members. To that end we, the directors of TLC, have put in place a Privacy Policy that we explain here.

This policy, together with our Terms and Conditions for the use of our two websites – www.abitoftlc.org and www.tlcmembers.org (the ‘TLC Websites’) – sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed and used by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. By visiting the TLC Websites and by joining TLC you accept and consent to our practices, which we summarize in this policy.

General

The General Data Protection Regulation (the ‘GDPR’) is no longer in force in the UK, although it is regarded as good practice to follow its provisions. The relevant legislation in England and Wales is the Data Protection Act 2018 (the ‘Act’).  We, the directors of A Bit of TLC Limited (‘TLC’), have framed our privacy policy to align it with the principles set out in the Act. We are registered (certificate reference ZB353958) with the Information Commisioner’s Office, whose website is an immensely valuable source of guidance.

Our overriding purpose is, of course, to respect and protect the relevance, use and privacy of the information that you entrust to us and that we gather about you in the course of your membership of TLC or during visits to the TLC Websites.

Data Protection Officer and Controller

For the purpose of the Act, our data protection officer and data controller, is Julian Sturdy-Morton of 80 Carrara Wharf, Ranelagh Gardens, London SW6 3UE.

What information do we hold?

We hold information that you provided on your application form, and any contact,  payment or other information you have provided us with or updated since then. We also hold a record of your financial transactions with TLC, of tickets and excursions that you have purchased, and of correspondence you have had with TLC. Information is only held while it is relevant to do so to enable us to provide the membership services of which you have subscribed.

How will we use your information?

We use this information to manage your membership of TLC. This includes sending you any communication that is required for that purpose, such as changes to our Terms and Conditions, any information about payments or any other communication that we reasonably consider to be necessary (‘Membership Emails’).

We also use the information to enable you to get the best value and enjoyment from your membership of TLC. We use the information to send out news emails (‘Newsletters’), which includes emails about outings, events and excursions related to the interests that you have highlighted to us. These Newsletters are optional – there is a link at the bottom of each Newsletter that allows you to opt out of receiving Newsletters, in which case you would rely entirely on visiting the TLC Websites to receive information about TLC and our forthcoming activities.

We will never share your information with other TLC members, other clubs or membership groups or any other third party, unless you specifically give us permission to do so for any reason, in which event you may withdraw such permission at any time. The only other exception is if we are required by law or regulation to disclose information about TLC to a regulatory authority but it is our intention, if permitted, to inform you before complying with such a request.

Access to your information and your entitlement to make corrections

You have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, or if you have any concerns as to how we store and use your personal information, please email info@abitoftlc.org, using the subject heading ‘Personal Data Request’, or write to us at 80 Carrara Wharf, Ranelagh Gardens, London SW6 3UE. We charge £10 for each information request to cover our costs.

You are permitted to make any corrections that you believe are appropriate and we shall amend our records accordingly.

Information we collect from you

There are many tools available to us to collect information about you that will be used to enhance and manage your use of the TLC Websites. Generally we collect and process the following data:

  • Information you give us – this is what you tell us about yourself, either when you completed your membership form or in subsequent communication with us by phone, e-mail or otherwise. It goes further than just correspondence and includes information you provide when you register to use the TLC Websites, subscribe to our service, search for a product, place an order on our site and when you report a problem with our site. The information that you give us may include your name, address, e-mail address and phone number, financial and credit card information.
  • Information we collect about you – each time you visit the TLC Websites we may collect the following:
    • technical information, including the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet, your login information, details of your browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform;
    • information about your visit, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) and products you viewed or searched for.

Cookies

In common with most internet sites, the TLC Websites are equipped to use cookies to distinguish you from other users of the TLC Websites. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse the TLC Websites and also allows us to improve our site. It is normal practice.

A cookie is a simple text file that is stored on the hard drive of your computer and keeps a record of the configuration of your computer in respect of a particular website. TLC uses this information to enhance the TLC Websites’ performance, including providing a secure way for TLC to verify your identity during your visit to the TLC Websites and to personalize your experience on the TLC Websites. By the way, the word ‘cookie’ was apparently first used in this context by Lou Montulli, an early internet pioneer, and it has stuck. Cookies do not collect any personally identifiable information.

TLC does not facilitate the merging of personally identifiable information collected, with non-personally identifiable, general information in any way. TLC may use such general information for internal marketing analysis, for example, to assess trends amongst website visitors or to measure the amount of traffic to the website.

You can disable cookies by turning them off on your web browser. Most browsers are set to accept and maintain cookies; you can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it or not.

For further information about cookies, please refer to www.aboutcookies.org.uk. That website will also provide details on how to disable cookies. Before you do, however, please bear in mind that disabling cookies may result in reducing the efficiency of the TLC Websites when you visit.

  • Information you give to us. We will use this information:
    • to provide you with information about events, excursions, goods and services that we believe may be of interest to you;
    • to notify you about changes to our service;
    • to ensure that content from our site is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer.
  • Information we collect about you. We will use this information:

    • to improve our site to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
    • to allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so;

Where we store your personal data

The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (‘EEA’). Your rights

You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We do not intend that any of your data should be used by third parties for marketing purposes; we shall keep you informed if there is a good reason to review that policy and you will have an opportunity to opt out at that stage.

Our sites may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, advertisers and affiliates. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.
